Mossy Accents...

Today I went shopping for accessories for a client's living room.  I wanted to add a natural element and a little color to her mantle.  I knew in my mind exactly what I wanted but I couldn't find it anywhere.  I went to a few stores and finally decided to ask for assistance.

I approached the clerk and asked, "Do you have large mossy balls?"

I know...awkward.

To spare myself further humiliation, I decided to go home and make my own.

Here is what I used:

A bag of bright green spanish moss, hot glue, and styrofoam balls.

Using a glue gun, I coated the balls with hot glue and pressed the moss around them.

It's just what I envisioned.

I'm not sure what the clerk had in mind.

Geesh...

  3. I went to Home Depot and asked the guy in the garden center "Do you have gazing balls?" and immediately it felt all wrong. He held his laughter, barely, and showed me where they were. I wanted to crawl under the bags of mulch. I left without one. I just could not buy it after that. i'd be reflecting on my embarrassment rather than my garden.
A neighbor of mine asked the young grocery clerk "Where do you keep your nuts?" and he burst out laughing, then apologized and said "I'm sorry. i'm such a child."
    I guess I'm a child too.

  13. Your large mossy balls are just wonderful...LOL. No, they really are, I just had to giggle a little at your comment and well...my own too. I did the same thing at a store...but the guy was a more feminine sort and he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about...thank goodness. But alas, no mossy balls there either. Thanks for the tutorial!

  20. Once upon a time when I was making dried/silk topiary trees and using Spanish Moss I used Spray Glue instead of a hot glue gun to make this work for the base - very sticky but it worked great.
