At the end of this post, please share your thoughts on early decorators. At what point to do feel it's ok to pull out the Christmas decor and when is it just plain too early?

I'm known to be a little early busting out the Christmas decor every year but, c'mon, September? Am I really blogging about Christmas when it's still 80 degrees in Michigan?
I can't help it, I'm so excited to have my Christmas mantel featured at BHG.com.
A few months ago, I was contacted by Better Homes and Gardens about including my Reindeer Antler Snowflake Mantel in their 2012 Christmas slide show.
After falling out of my chair, I responded with a huge yes, answered some of their questions and proceeded to stalk the BHG.com website every day until it was published, yesterday.
The slide show is a fantastic collection of "real home" Christmas mantels. It's very inspiring. So inspiring that now, I'm ready to go into the basement and dig out the Christmas boxes.
I have a major case of seasonal decorating confusion.

At what point is it ok to decorate early? When is it acceptable and when is it a little crazy?

Your Christmas mantel is stunning! I love the mix of items you used. It is traditional but fresh...that's what I like about your style.

Awww! Congratulations!! So happy for you! Your mantle is stunning but don't go putting it up yet!! Now is definitely too early but I say anytime after November 15th and you are good to go!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely TOO EARLY to decorate for Christmas!! You have to decorate for Halloween and Thanksgiving first!! But your decor is simply stunning ALL THE TIME!!
ReplyDeleteI just got asked to host one of my churches christmas women's group RS activities at my house, so Christmas decorating is on my brain! This comes at the perfect time. Now since I have a few months I can better plan out my decorating, rather than all my regular stuff. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! That is beyond exciting. I'm the day after Thanksgiving girl. And I've been waiting for Oct. 1st to do Halloween. You could always do the antlers now w/fall stuff, then add xmas and delete fall accents;).

ReplyDeleteI would all year. Love it. I drag my stuff ( well the hubby and my grown children) from the basement. Box after box. Then the things I have stashed away, things I have found thrifting since last year. November 1 st. For all decorations. The trees,(3) go up the second weekend. Until the second week of January.

ReplyDeleteI'm waiting long enough to do the Halloween mantel- which is my favorite and up for the shortest amount of time. Somehow, I think Pinterest could be responsible for the earlier jump for retailers and magazines. Your mantel definitely stood out from the bunch.

ReplyDeletePretty yes ... but .... waaaay early. Becomes so old quickly.
We have 3 trees (+ 3 floors!) in this big-ole house. I put the smallish (4 footer) on a very old antique drum table which belonged to my grandmother. Looks great w/a white real linen table cloth. A fave: lots of old colorful toys underneath the tree. Too awesome. I can wait it out though. After Thanksgiving is fine. Plenty of time to enjoy.

Congratulations! How exciting!!! Your mantel looks beautiful like everything else you do! As far as when I decorate for Christmas...I usually start the day after Thanksgiving. We host Thanksgiving so I can't even think of Christmas until I get through that day!

Yay! Yours is one of my favorites from the slideshow. I am not an early decorator. I always wait until well after Thanksgiving. The tree usually goes up the first or second weekend in December. The longer the decorations are out, the longer our two little boys have to wait for Christmas. Two to three weeks of anticipation is plenty. :) I think it would be OK to decorate early if you were having a holiday party or had special relatives coming to visit for Thanksgiving and you planned to have a combined Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration with them. Before Halloween would just be ridiculous. :)

ReplyDeleteAs for Christmas decorating, my decor comes out the day after Halloween so that it will be in place by Nov. 15th. Until then I'm working on lots of DIY projects to incorporate into my decor.
I love this mantle, I usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving. I love my fall decor, so it's hard to take it down!

I LOVE decorating for Christmas!!! It is my ALL time favorite season to decorate for. I usually pull out the Christmas decor right on thanksgiving and have the tree u by Black Friday ... I will decorate earlier sometimes because we travel during the holiday season and I want to enjoy it as long as I can:)
ReplyDeleteTo me, Halloween is in October, Thanksgiving in November, and Christmas/Chanukah happens in December. The first of these respective months is early enough to decorate, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteI think we should enjoy one holiday at a time. I think the Friday after Thanksgiving is the day to begin Christmas decorating.
ReplyDeleteI would be absolutely thrilled, too. Congratulations! When is it too early? Well, it's your house so you are completely free to decorate when the mood strikes you. I'm all for doing what makes you happy even if it's not the norm. Some of the most creative ideas start that way! Who knows, you may end up tweaking the mantle to make it even more spectacular the more you look at it.
