Family Friendly Living Room

Thank you,  everyone that weighed in on my facebook poll the other day!  I am so excited about the DIY  series coming in 2013.  Your requests will help to inspire new blog posts and project tutorials, so thank you, again.  If you're not currently following The Yellow Cape Cod on facebook, please click here to like our page.  There's a lot that goes on over there that is not shared on the blog.

Today's featured design board is a great example of how practicality can still be beautiful.
This design board is from a recent online design plan created for a family looking for an updated, family friendly living room design.

 With a beloved pet that likes to curl up on the sofa and grown kids that like to kick back and watch the game, practicality and comfort topped the priority list. It goes without saying, the new space also had to look amazing.

The design began with a large leather sectional sofa.  Leather upholstery epitomizes practicality. A distressed/weathered trunk "coffee table" from Potterybarn can handle being used as a foot rest and snack table.  In addition to being practical, it brings personality and character to the space.

A soft blue rug and a pair of crisp white (machine washable) slip covered chairs keep the space feeling fresh and light.

A new stacked stone fireplace surround will be a stunning focal point {like the one shown here from RedDoorHome}

The goal was to keep practicality a top priority without sacrificing style.

Thank you, Donna and family, for inviting me into your home.
