Neutral Dining Room and Family Room With Orange Accents

Today's featured online design plan was a two room project we just wrapped up for a returning client, Barbara. You may remember the bedroom we designed for her through our online design plan service last year (click here to see the before and after photos of that project).

Barbara was so pleased with the results of her bedroom design that she came back to us for a design plan for her dining nook and family room. Take a look at what we created for her...

The space is a large, open concept Great Room that includes the Family Room and Dining Nook. These areas are also open to the kitchen, it was important that the entire lower level has seamless flow. Here is the true to scale floorplan illustration we provided to show Barbara where everything in our design plan should be placed...

In the Living Room area, we created a design that complemented her existing paint colors which are BM Stone House and BM Sandy Ridge. Barbara enjoys switching up the accent colors as the seasons change, therefore, we created a design that is mainly neutral with colorful accents that are easy to switch in and out.

The sofa we selected is a timeless piece in beautiful neutral upholstery.

For color and pattern we selected a gorgeous area rug that anchors the furniture arrangement.

These are some of the items Barbara already had that we kept in the space...

She had a gorgeous set of arm chairs from Ethan Allen, a fantastic horse painting and a lot of fun accessories like the oversized key and vases from Potterybarn. We gave her additional accessories to help her really finish off the design. They include new accent pillows, throws and coffee table decor. She had a great set of mercury glass lamps that we also kept in the design, but we gave her some suggestions on how to give them a new look. Here is a look at a page from her design plan that addresses that...

You can see the coffee table we selected for her in the slide above. In addition to being a practical and useful piece of furniture, it is also an amazing focal point in the space. The round shape, rich wood toned finish and amazing design makes this table very special. It gives the room a ton of interest and texture.

To complement that stunning table, we recommended a coordinating end table and rectangular end table that keeps the space from looking too "matchy", and more curated.

Once we had the design for the Living Room locked down, we got to work on the dining nook...

We selected a round rug for underneath the dining table. We loved the rug we chose for the living room so much, that we went with the same rug for the dining nook only in a round shape which keeps them from looking to similar.

The round rug also enhances the round shape of the "new" dining table. The reason "new" is in parenthesis is because the table is actually something Barbara already had, but wasn't using. She had a rectangular shaped table in her dining room and this round Potterybarn table in storage. We loved how the round table softened the space which otherwise had a lot of edges.

To soften the design even further, we incorporated upholstered dining chairs in place of wooden chairs.

We selected a few simple, but stunning accessories to combine with some of Barbara's existing pieces to complete the design.

Designing these two spaces at the same time allowed us to create one coehesive design plan which is important for homes with an open concept floorplan. Our online design plan service is perfect for multi-room projects and even offers a discount for working on more that one room at a time.

We still have openings for new design projects, but this month is filling up fast. Please email TheYellowCapeCod@yahoo.com if you have any questions on how it works, otherwise you can reserve your consultation here.
